Three of Swords

July 2011 - Digital Painting

Storm asked recently which card of the Tarot represented oneself. My response was the Three of Swords. For as far back as the late 90's, I've been sadder than happier as a person. In term of a scale, I tippd towards depression. At first I though it was just merely melancholy, but as I seeked out my own independance, the more I realised I was the architect of my own demise.

The image has dark and gothic elements to it. Black tears, from darkened eyes which are closed, that flow down the body forming a flowing cape. The third eye is vacant in it's stare. The swords are held in an impractical position causing more pain as they cut into the body. There is a hollow in the chest, housing a small fragile heart in a gilded cage. The background is a shower of purple rain onto a shallow pool of crimson.
