4 Panel Canvases

2003 Acrylic Painting

These four panels were done in 2003 when I began to explore acrylics on canvas in Melbourne. These were done shortly after finishing my tarot deck.

With my first set of paints and canvas, I decided to tackle each "raw" colour with an offsetting image in the middle. The image usually represented an obvious contrast in colour, but was directly linked to the primary colour of the background.

Red - Defiance: of the last green leaf of the season.
Yellow - Difference: a violet flower growing in a field of gold ones
Green - Solitude: of the young farmhand in a dark and windy field of grass
Blue - Drowning: seemingly impossible watery death of a rubber duck
