Chilli Forest

2006 Jul - Acrylic

Commissioned piece for my friend Ben's new apartment. The image was to compliment his existing colour scheme of chocolate and earthen tones. It is one of my larger pieces and he asked for something abstract.

We decided on the colour scheme from flipping through a Chinese cookbook he had on his coffee table and picked on a chilli dish.

The vertical scheme was to counter his horizontal and long living space. The subtle squares at the base of the painting were originally bolder to match some of the square themes in his furniture, but we agreed on blending them out.

The painting also uses reflective gold accents and undercoats which changes its character depending the time of day and vantage point.

Once again, another textural piece using an Impasto base before highlighting and accentuation shades with tones.
