Part of a series of paintings which depicts different doors and different openings. Inspired by my walking journeys between home and the unemployment office in May/June of 2009.
Personally, I find doors fascinating, as the face of a home or a place. They appear to say one thing about the place, but can present another upon entry.
These were done on my oldest canvases which originally started out as a simple sequence depicting a blood red lake shore. They were then painted over with green, impesto medium, black, violet and shades of blue squares forming an abstract series in 2009. The blue is the final base of colour for this series of four.
This door is the second in a series of smaller rectangular canvases depicting blue themed doors. Inspired by the trademark "Tiffany Blue" colour, I decided craft a door which embodies aspects of the store.
The clockwork above the door can be found in most of the their famous stores, symbolising their time pieces. The crystal like door embodies their gems and precious stones. The crisp masonry work evocative of their commitment to timeless pieces.
The clock is at 11:11 in ode to the recent passing off 11/11/11 11:11:11
