Brian Michael Backshell

2004 Acrylic Paintings

Three panel piece for a birthday present for a friend of mine. He wanted something "Blue".

Brian -
Celtic/Gaelic origins meaning "Strong One"

I drew from the aspect that a stone can be an anchor, and strength and stability can be derived from there; especially amidst the continual motion of the river.

Michael -
"Who is like God"

Taken from the Archangel Michael, the floating feather represents him; fallen from his wing.

Backshell -
(Origins of his surname was questionable)

I decided to take the literal words and evoked the image of a turtle, who carries his burden/home on his back. Tied in with the "strength" of the first panel, I thought it was rather appropriate.
