Chasm City

2011 Feb-Mar - Acrylic Painting

This canvas has undergone so many different paintings over the years, since it's inception as the "Flaming Chicks". It was then painted over with random colours, followed by a half attempt at something more archi-tectonic. Eventually, after an inspired doodle in my small journal, I decide to paint a cityscape with an exaggerated perspective.

The colour scheme utilises complimentary tones of cool purples against warm yellows, golds and peach tones. Here, one half of the chasm is illuminated by the sunset, while the other side, separated by a series of bridges, is shadowed for contrast.

There was the intent of painting more windows and doors on each of the surfaces ... perhaps someday in the future.
