Venetian Mask

2009 Sep - Twisted Wire

Twisting wire is one of this things I used to do as kid to make little robots and creatures. I used to raid my father's hardware cupboard and steal away at the leftover galvanised wires he used for fencing. I used to also disassemble dynamos to salvage various copper wires.

Following my relative success with the Bonsai Tree and copper wire, I decided to make a mask using gold (plated) wire from the local bead shop. The base was from a general craft shop, along with the ribbon. The base was coloured with various coloured texta markers. The wire was built in sections and joined together towards the end. The whole metal structure was then sewn onto the mask at strategic points.

The purpose of the mask was for Aaron's Masquerade birthday party in October. It's a whimsical Jester type mask with a hint of Fae with a butterfly resting on the forehead.
